COUNTY BUS TAX
COUNTY BUS TAX The Ann Arbor News reports that the AATA has hired a firm to study attitudes towards a millage to support a county bus service, (June 22, 2006, p A1). If the report is favorable, it may hire the same firm to sell the deal to the voters. If this is true the firm has an incentive to produce a report encouraging the millage attempt. Why didn’t they tell this firm that it could not, under any circumstances, get the contract to sell any millage proposal resulting from the study report? One member of the AATA board pointed out that there isn’t even a general description of the proposed system for people to react to. At the very least we ought to know whether this expansion is for the benefit of people who like the amenities of Ann Arbor but do not care to participate in paying the taxes that are part of the deal.
